Full Moon 0º Opposing the Sun in Capricorn
Full Moon sextile Uranus Rx in Aries
Venus in Scorpio trine Neptune in Pisces
Day Before: The Winter Solstice & Mercury conjunct Jupiter in Sagittarius
Larger theme: North Node in Cancer/ South Node Capricorn
The last Full Moon of the year falls just hours after the Winter Solstice and after the Sun moves into Capricorn - ushering in the energy of Yule for us in the Northern Hemisphere. The Winter Solstice here brings us the longest night of the year so it’s very interesting to have such a bright light beaming in the night time sky for us. Perhaps a message to us: the year has been dark but there is a jewel amongst it. In fact, many jewels: for the Ursid meteor shower glides through as well - but those may be ironically harder to see because of the bright Full Moon!! None the less, wouldn’t it be something to partake in the magic and make a wish if you see one?
Falling at 0º of Cancer, this Full Moon conjures quite the luminous energy for us. 0º is always a potent energy - it’s the beginning of a sign. And until April - each Full Moon is at 0º - sending a message that as we move through 2019 - for each birth of something, there will be an ending as well. We are learning the lesson of endings in some way. For each celebration, there will be nostalgia for something else.
And then…each New Moon for the first few months of the year also falls at 15º of the sign it’s transiting - the middle. Another indication that perhaps we are equalizing something out in our lives by, in our collective world.
There’s no doubt that this particular time of year is sensitive, in good ways and in bad ways. In another post recently I mentioned how this time of year provides the mechanism of being a marker of time - a reference point to see how much has changed, shifted, grown…or not. The Full Moon will intensify these reflective properties.
Be gentle with yourself with if this year, or this time of year feels like a bruise that’s being poked at. Or perhaps, turn to face the source of the bruise, confront the proverbial culprit and change the way you would typically respond. This Full Moon is of the Cardinal essence - there is a desire to move energy forward.
Some of us may feel a great deal of rage about the way things are; take care of your anger too in that case. Seek out a “safe” person to vent to. Or utilize a tool like singing, freestyle dancing, or sweat inducing exercise to push it through your body - instead of keeping it trapped inside the most important home you possess. It’s very hard to actually process anger as it’s highly intimate to reveal how much something has “gotten” to you - especially if you’re a feminine being.
As I said with the New Moon in Sagittarius a couple of weeks ago: Change wants to be had. This Full Moon falling so near to a Winter Solstice is fairly rare - shift shift shift.
Here in the Northern Hemisphere it may continue to be cold - but the Sun will start to slowly return - shining off the snow that will surely fall which is such a beautiful sight even if you’re a grump about it! In the Southern Hemisphere - you’re likely partaking in some Yule traditions thanks to the Christmas holidays - honor Capricorn season for it’s strength, and persistence - you’re ushering in a different atmospheric change - but nonetheless there is a warmth that calls to each sphere.
Let’s talk about Cancer and Capricorn; the stars of this show.
Cancer is a Water sign, the sign of the Crab: a hard outer shell and soft tender vulnerable inside. Cancerian energetically is known for it’s psychic ability, sensitivity, moods like the moon, nurturing qualities, and home centered awareness and family. They like to feel and bring comfort, nourishment, and emotion. Naturally she sits at the “bottom” of the zodiac wheel, looking up and around at the whole circle - almost as if she’s watching everyone - seeing if they may need anything.
Capricorn is a dense Earth sign, the Mountain Climbing Goat: strong hooves, always reaching, disciplined, straight forward, with a penchant for the tried and true. Cap sits at the top of the zodiac wheel, proud at the top, looking down upon obstacles it may have faced to reach this place.
Cancer is like a root, an origin story. Capricorn is what we’ve built from it - a path we may have stuck to out of obligation/fear, or just sheer will, desire and true honor. Sometimes we need to rip things out from the root to examine it fully, to find the root cause of something, the issue - the heart - and embrace that or adjust it - or destroy it. We may find this root is no longer allowed to grow, to be apart of our climb, our path, perhaps it’s the tendril that is dragging us down - that it is not “healthy” for the ultimate goal.
We can get very stuck within the tales we’ve been told about how things are - sometimes we feel obligated to carry on with them - as it feels like a means of connection. To say “No” may sever an emotional bond - it doesn’t matter if it’s a detrimental one or not - there are obligations, honors, respects that bonds families together. The Familiar is what is understood, it’s what it “proof”, it’s what is solid matter to our brains.
So sometimes we carry on with it, carry IT, even if our heart is not truly in it.
Imagine the stories elders told children and the programming it instilled before they even consciously understood that that was even happening. Some of these stories are valuable, precious heirlooms, memories, and wisdom to onto and pass down to others. Other stories only serve to drag us down - they down allow the roots of hearts to grow deeper and the flowers of life to reach higher.
We have to keep in mind here that the Lunar Nodes are important in the larger theme we are collectively transiting. Since early November the North Node moved into Cancer, the South into Capricorn - the nodes travel “backwards” so they are at the very end of these two signs currently - so they aren’t a “major” factor - but one to highlight as we weave these stories together to make the most of them. There is a karmic aspect to this as the Nodes are called the “Nodes of Fate”. Cancer is like a coven, tight knit community & relations, one that shares that which nourishes. Capricorn is like the systems, structures, the larger operations of the world. We are letting go of how it “should be” or “has been” and being urged to intuitively craft new homes, new structures, new guidelines for our life, new ways to share and nurture. In a way the “youngings” are being asked to step up and shape the world with their hearts longings now - their ideas and concepts of what caring for others, the community, the world looks like.
We are being asked to question what it is that we really really do need? What is important? What is the intangible goal linked to the tangible one?
We are challenged to move towards taking action that lets the Heart is inform the ambition. And not the other way around. We are encouraged to get back to the heart of things and infuse that back into our systems.
Now - this can obviously have a dark side. For some people they may read this and thing “getting back to family values when a family was a man and a wife and divorce wasn’t an option and you had 2.5 kids and stayed at one job for 50 years and abortion was illegal and nudity was banned.” And there are certainly plenty of assholes out there that are FEELING very motivated by this. SO - try your best to not lose hope. Just remind yourself you feel just as passionate, if not more about the world your heart is longing to live within and that trusting that - is very very powerful and will carry you through the obstacles.
The one main aspect that this Full Moon makes is that of a sextile to a Retrograde Uranus in the very last degrees of Aries - so it’s not quite “exact” but it’s there. Uranus will station direct in the first week of January too and then we will have NO MAJOR RETROGRADE PLANETS FOR JANUARY AND FEBRUARY!!! This is kind of nice I’d say! We do have Eclipses though! Which is plenty enough to experience. Another thing to look forward to? Mars and Venus won’t retrograde in all of 2019 either the way they both did in 2018.
So Full Moons are very energetic and it’s the holidays, the aspect to Uranus brings a bit more electricity into the picture. Cancerian energy is known to be “moody” but that doesn’t necessary always equal a “bad” mood - it can be a “good” too. Uranus is very awakening, so around this time we may feel as if our moods are swinging wildly across a pendulum. Full of hope, and then full doubt. Full of cheer, full of stress. I think of Uranus like a pulse wave of electric surges - sometimes the waves come in at high frequency amplifying everything and then it drops low. Uranus is eccentric and unpredictable like that. Excitement, for better or worse, can be awakened.
The lovely thing about this aspect is that as Uranus is the Awakener - it helps us get liberated, helps us break free. There is a strong opportunity within the atmosphere influencing us to break free from worries, or habits that have become a self imposed prison - things that are indeed likely to hit close to home. You may say “You know what - not this year - I’m not going to go to so and so’s house - I actually really feel like going to ____ instead.” Uranus can bring in some clarity here and there about what is the “right” or “intuitive” move to make right now that will be the greater act of self care - the greater act of healing. For some of us it make be exerting our independence from certain family traditions - for others the “rebellious” thing …is ironically partaking in it all. We do have to work a bit to shake the shackles off though - this is a sextile and requires a bit of courage on our part o really utilize.
But with Mercury and Jupiter conjunct in bluntly honest Sagittarius - the support is there to pull the words from our throats and out of our lips. There’s definitely an energy in the air that feels as if - people are becoming more open. It’s very hard to describe but today I was hesitant about telling my mother I wasn’t sure I would attend a Christmas Eve gathering I always go to - but the words just slipped out - and didn’t get ruffled by her “Aww man really?” sound - I just told her why and quick enough she was like “I fully get it”. No hard time was given. It was so much less dramatic because I was so…gently honest about it all. What a healing. What an opening.
Both Cancer and Capricorn can play the martyr role. Cancerian energy can play martyr in that it’s so emotionally looped into things, so sensitive to others, so nurturing, so caring, so psychically giving - that it can get really offended when that is not reciprocated. Capricorn can play martyr by holding onto the density of obstacles, “look at how hard I work” “look how much I sacrifice” “look at everything I’ve made” “look at how I have no time because I’m building an empire” - so it gets pissed off when no one seems to appreciate that in the way they would like for it to be appreciated OR things are not working out the way they thought.
Cancerian energy representing the hearth and home - can forget that it needs to get out of the relationships that are only taking and focus on building something just for themselves. Capricorn energy representing career & ambition - can forget to slow the fuck down and process their emotional selves, building a healthier foundation of feelings and of heart. There are many influences outside of ourselves that feed into these roles that each sign represents a bit TOO much - BUT it’s up the individual to recognize the cues that something ain’t right and shift the scenario by making some type of change that interrupts, disrupts the story they are looped into.
Uranus can become that disruption for us - as it’s last return to Aries for it’s retrograde - is helping us pick up a piece of our identity that we forgot to bring forward and really take the leap forward to exercise and infuse our individual hearts into the new story so we feel more self assured in the future.
Uranus says “Branch off. Break through the shell of the seed. Break through the surface of the soil.” Uranus encourages us at this Full Moon to take a risk with our emotions and our plans. To be the redirector of our sails. To break a habit of comfort, because misery after all is good company too. Be as open as you can to the surprises, the shifts, the changes in plans, even the chaos that may arise.
More of us will teeter between keeping this private and then taking it into the public and being expressive. Let people surprise you with their honesty this season. The Mercury & Jupiter in Sagittarius energy is generating that boldness of mouth - so there could be quite the few interesting conversations happening - as everyone will have a comeback. The energy feels feisty, flirty, but not malicious in intent as I’m reading it right now (I’m writing this on 12.20). Under these skies…Mercury & Jupiter together here is opinionated, boisterous, chatty, fiery and encourages us to come out of our shells WITHOUT compromising who we are.
Self care is absolutely a huge theme here. Cancer loves that shit! So a Full Moon may reveal to you how well you’ve been taking care of yourself by throwing a disruptive event your way - or it may smack you upside the head to show you - you have been avoiding so much about taking care of yourself that NOW you will not be able to hide.
Doing what we need to do to feel the “healthiest” right now is top of mind. There will be discomfort for some of us - in an attempt to make us more ironically comfortable with that. Some of us may actually find that nurturing others in some way by hosting a gathering, or feeding people, to be the thing that actually nurtures our heart the most - the thing that we were hungry for.
This holiday season essentially there’s a collective longing for more love to surround us - even if you’re a grinch: grinches need love too and can receive it in so many ways that are not always hearts, hugs, kisses and presents.
The last aspect that is influencing the energy is that of Venus in Scorpio making a lovely but excessive trine with Neptune in Pisces.
When Venus and Neptune dance like this with each other in it’s highest expression ..it can soften everything. Even though Scorpio energy can be a bit dark, intense - it craves intimacy - so that energy floats through this weekend here as well. These are not surface level “Hello’s” and “How are you’s” - we really want to know what is up with people - not out of nosiness - but because we really care and we want everyone to move into a space where they feel like they are finally entering into the transformation they deserve to have. Venus in Scorpio sees through the bullshit, the attitudes, the fear, the shame and stares directly into the uncomfortable void.
Neptune in Pisces reminds us of compassion, empathy, imagination but can also bring in too much illusion or confusion if we try to avoid the creepy crawlers in our mind, body, and soul through substances or over indulgence in dream worlds. So one low expression of this could be the soul who needs to numb out in order to deal with family, and the holidays, we may get trapped in visions that are dragging down our self worth, we may compare ourselves to others a bit too much, we could get wrapped up in shame. This IS just something to be aware of that could be a temptation for us. Some of us may go there and then Uranus zaps us and wakes us up with clarity through the fog here and there.
But other wise - this can be such a soothing aspect as it wants us to enjoy things, it want’s us to find the richness in getting lost in the moment, it wants us to be transformed and evolved by feeling engaged. It’s highly artistic and some amazing greats can come through or to you - music, cinema, fashion etc. Romance wants to come through as well - stronger bonds that have “been through it all”. Appreciation for the struggles that bring families and people closer.
And lastly with this aspect…a massive clearing out of shadows, ghosts, demons can be had. Scorpio and Pisces are both “dark” places in their own ways. Scorpio is the Underworld - dealing with death and taboo subjects - even sexuality. Pisces deals with things like suffering, existential sorrow, self sabotage. This trine coupled with the Full Moon in Cancer shows us that something is ready to be cleared out from our emotional realm quite strongly for good. Scorpio, Pisces, and Cancer are all water signs - deeply intuitive, sensitive, absorptive, and highly feeling based. These invisible things can harden our armor or make us want to drown our sorrows away and disconnect. It’s almost as if we take our Witches Brooms and sweep away the cobwebs, the dust and conjure up some spells in an effort to banish the ghosts that have encapsulated us and taken up too much space in our emotional life.
A cycle is ready to be ended so Artistry can take place, because it finally has a space to call home.
