“You're the wolf. You are the scorpion. You are all those things that slip and soar and stalk through the deep forest and the dark night. You are powerful. You feel it coiling within you. Become the wolf and the bat and the scorpion. Be truly who you are.” Dracula, Penny Dreadful

The Scorpio Full Moon mirrors the depths we are willing to face in becoming who we truly are.
This Scorpio Full Moon bears with it a distinct essence likened to the mythology of Psyche, the tale of a most beautiful woman that, in short, experiences the highs and lows of love and life as well as the journey of embracing every corner of our own Souls and in turn teaching us about how unconditional love feels. Psyche is symbolic of the experiences that test us, that help show us to us what we are made of. Not in only the brawny sense, but also in the material of our Soul Fabric sense. Her mythos can show us what it takes to cultivate and embody Self Trust.
I feel Psyche’s energy coming through at this Full Moon because the Asteroid of her namesake is currently Retrograde in Scorpio through. In Psyches mythology, she travels to the Underworld to visit Persephone as part of the feat she has been given to face. As we know Scorpio is often associated with Underworld activities, death and rebirth etc…co-ruled by the planet Pluto. In addition to this the asteroid Ceres is conjunct the North Node in Leo and makes a square to this Full Moon.
Ceres is the Mother of Persephone and the one who is responsible for the seasons changing from the barren death like cold of winter to warm lusciousness of spring to summer to autumn, among other responsibilities.
This truly is Full Moon reflecting with great luminosity our own heroines journey that has lead us to become who we are today, though it all. We reflect upon the ways we’ve become empowered by the ways we’ve been broken. We reflect upon our resourcefulness in the face of constraint. We reflect upon the ways in which even our experience has hardened us and made us less willing to be vulnerable. We contemplate what may happen if we find our surrender and let go of our jails of resistance.
Raven Kaldera’s description of this lunation in his book “Moon Phase Astrology” really resonated with me and I suggest you give it a read for it’s full of lush insight into the darkness of this moon. But what I most particularly loved about his assessment was the essence of becoming the Keeper of Dark Secrets, the High Priestess. He writes “When you go deep enough, you emerge into a place that is far beyond you, and Powers await you there.” Raven also describes the process of accepting the gray area of all that is life. As the sign of extremes, Scorpio tends to see in Black and White, and one of the main tasks of her archetypes is integrating this spectrum.
This is a Full Moon, where the Sun is in the opposite sign of Taurus. Full Moons showcase dualities, contrasts, relationships between things. They help us bridge gaps for they are the halfway point between the start and the end of the full Lunar cycle, acting as a bonding mechanism of sorts.
Blackness absorbs light. And it is through the full ownership and integration of these Dark Nights of the Soul that we find our own version of divinity…even if for a while it gets pretty heavy and dark there…this Full Moon shows us there is always light coming through.
This Full Moon sits across from the Taurean Sun creating an invisible line that connects ease and effort together.
In much of the personal work I’ve been doing of late a prominent theme I’ve been exploring is my propensity towards being “in effort” in all that I do and how I create more difficultly in my life than there needs to be.
I’m a Scorpio Sun, with my Mercury and Pluto there as well. Scorpio is intensity incarnate, it is familiar with the flavors of fear, it knows the effort of death. I have no natal planets in Taurus making this quite well…efforted in my life to understand. I do however have my Vertex there. The Vertex is calculated point indicating topics of fate, karma and at times a cosmic doorway which when activated by transit and by the strong relationships in my life, marks me with the task of of letting go and uncomplicating my life by surrendering to my own personal values.
I share this personal astrology as an example for these themes are some of themes we will be working with at this lunation, especially since the Full Moon will make a sextile to Saturn Retrograde in Capricorn; Captain Hard Lessons with a side of Limitation.
And also because I sure as HECK KNOW that everyone, to some degree, tends to make things much more complicated than necessary. If you’re here and reading this, we probs have that in common don’t we?!
Even as I’m writing this, I’m checking myself to see if I’m moving into the territory of making this bold more complex than it really needs to be to have an impact out of fear of not being worthy enough or knowledgable enough sounding to those of you reading it! “The work“ is always being done!
Anyways, back to this Full Moon. As I mentioned, it makes a sextile to Saturn meaning the Sun will trine it. These are, thankfully, positive aspects. Saturn in Capricorn is a beast for building stable foundations, it is meticulously testing how well a system is working. So at this Full Moon, any positive aspect to Saturn (generally considered a rough planet) is undoubtedly appreciated.
Saturn only moved into it’s 2ish year long transit of Cap in December, but ever since then you can sense that the collective is taking Capricorn concerns more seriously than before. The alignment of our career with our sense of purpose, our purpose for our desire to achieve, that hooves that the Patriarch has in our society, and our obligation to continue on traditions that have proved some comfort or familiarity.
I feel as though the nature of this Full Moon will bring about powerful breakthroughs and subsequent actions in regards to the above, but with supportive reality checks.
We ask “Where is this going long term, really?” “How long can we go on with xy,z?” “How much more will I endure of x,y,z?” “What is actually WORTH me enduring?”
The New Moon in Aries a couple of weeks ago was conjunct unpredictable and rebellious Uranus. You may have felt the restless itch to make changes, gotten so up in arms that you couldn’t help but do something about it.
Now this Full Moon builds the crescendo up just a wee bit more and blatantly asks us “What’s it gunna be?”
What burdens are we going to release for they carry nothing but bullshit and cobwebbed hardship with absolutely no market value anymore?
I’ve already spoken to quite a few in my circle that have made fairly big life changes over the last couple of weeks or have haphazardly had one bestowed upon them by the Universe to move stagnant energy, to gain clarity, to get the fuck out of the rut. Do you feel the grumble of such a call in your belly too?
See while Saturn is absolutely a drag sometimes, he serves his purpose is explicitly knowing every single type of boundary we possess and how we continuously assault it by pretending it doesn’t exist. We play with the boundary, and it plays back. Hard.
I’m all for testing our own boundaries; if we truly LEARN from them.
There are some boundaries set in place for a damn reason.
There are some boundaries that serve as built in wise guardians to us.
We don’t need a fucking spirit guide to know them.
May we know these boundaries, may we respect them, may we do something about them at this Full Moon when they’ve been crossed.
May we know the limits of the Patriarch too. Mars, Pluto Rx, and Black Moon Lilith (mean) also all sit within Capricorn at this time, huddled near each other like a little coven ready to do some black magic on the world and raise the Witches.
As I write this we all just found out Cosby was found guilty and will now face jail due to his sexual assault bullshit, a strong result of Pluto, Mars and Black Moon Lilith working together to excavate dirty deeds and dirty choices and call that shit out into the light to get wrecked by the very system that made it even possible.
But us Feminists are not off the hook either, there’s some shady shit going on there too with a ton of nuanced behavior being made aware of as I’ve seen so many discussions essentially exploring the rhetoric that sounds like we are describing who or what is more feminist or PC than so and so etc And if we can sort that shit out over the next few years while we house Pluto and Saturn in Capricorn AND Uranus in Taurus, we may have a solid shot at recalibrating the very fabric of our society to truly something more inclusive for all.
Taurus and Cap are both signs traditionally labeled “feminine”, so when we have such slow moving planets representative of our collective lessons and evolutions here, we are given a chance to really ground in the feminine body in material ways that our human selves can understand and work with. Let’s not waste it.
This is yet another lunation that is so aligned with my personal mantra: “Hell Hath No Fury like a Witch Awakened”.
Occult lessons will be whispered to us.
Esoteric realities will be anchored in.
Embodiment of our own Temples of devotion will be required.
Utilization of valuable resources, including our own integrity and power.
The Full Moon and Sun will square the Lunar Nodes of Destiny. The North Node sits with Goddess Asteroid Ceres in Leo, whom I mentioned earlier. The South Node opposite in Aquarius.
These symbolize the other key ingredients we need to mix into our potions. Ceres is labeled the Great Mother by astrologer Demetra George, she teaches us Nurturance. How we nurture and are nurtured best. It’s the manner in which we may often go about meeting some of our basic needs.
Ceres in Leo conjunct the North Node (that which we are striving towards to embrace) indicates collectively what so many of us need right now in other to feel like we own a sense of bounty in our lives is to experience creative flow and expression, to find joy and pleasure wherever we can. Embracing a sense of romance about life. Often times we deny ourselves this food because we see how dire the world seems to be and so what right do we have to feel good? To provide ourselves what could be considered luxurious? How dare we laugh when there is so much pain?
Perhaps we even long for the type of mothering we did not experience as children, we know collectively the mother wound is great and is part of why this Patriarch system we operate within is kicking and screaming like a toddler, it too needs it’s Mother.
This square does make things hurt a little with this, we may be aware of how starved we were for the affection we needed. And we may realize as adults we are now given the responsibility to feed it to ourselves, because we CAN do that. And feeding it to ourselves can look differently. It may be we feed these needs by actually spending time to repair a mother or parental relationship. Or it may be that cut that cord to the relationship off, to grow our own gardens, our own creations more fully, to let it space to bloom.
Sometime what we think to be the poison, is actually the medicine.
Again, this is a repeated message for me as well by pretty much everyone around me. To enjoy myself, laugh, feed my creativity, express, make it easier. And yet like a fool I keep resisting. I see this reflected in this square. And so I hope for me and for you, that the resistance surrenders and we may find it in our hearts to swallow our pride and let go and allow this warmth to develop.
One last thing before I close this blog post out. The day before this Full Moon, Juno the Goddess Asteroid of Marriage, Duty, Power Dynamics and Women’s Rights moves in Aries until July. This is significant because it will immediately conjunct the healing asteroid Chiron, how we are wounded and how we heal.
When Juno is in Aries we confront our relationship to our identity within unions. The desire for individuality, and the pain of not feeling like we have that can come up at the start of this goddess’s transit. Juno simply put shows us what we sacrifice for unity, what we are willing to give up and what we are not. It can hurt to realize we need to leave people “behind” if we discover it’s too unbearable to go another day out of integrity with our Self. It can hurt like hell when we realize, our partners may need to leave us to do the same healing for themselves.
This reminds me of something I personally remind myself of every time I think upon one to one relationships, especially the ones that are bound like that trough marriage. And it’s this: Being human can be incredibly hard on your own. You will make mistakes. You will get it right. You will experience the full spectrum. So when in relationship, you’ve got two people trying to be human together and they will be on their personal journey with or with out us. The only choice we have, is who we choose to be human with.
Juno and Chiron in Aries colors this Full Moon in Scorpio with shades of the healing human, the wounded identity, the quest for unity, with self and with other, the quest for surrender, the quest for personal power.
Make no mistake, this is some Lord of the Rings type shit.
