If you follow me on social media, you know that I've adored blogging queen Gala Darling's work for quite some time. She's got a different spin on all things self love and is also all about self expression. And also a reformed goth, like me.
So when she launched her book I knew I had to get it right away. And I even got her to sign it when I met her at an event earlier this year!!
The premise of the book is simple: How can you bring Radical Self Love into your life and what does that even mean? What does it look like? Gala breaks the book down in 3 sections:
- Loving Yourself
- Loving Others
- Daily Magic
So simple. So clean. So easy.
It's spread over 7 Chapters Each chapter ends with super fun "homework"...more like "love work". And they aren't complicated tasks and you never feel like if you don't do them all right now, you're going to be stuck forever and ever. There's freedom. Each chapter also has a recap of what she has shared making it so easy to refer back to after you've read it.
Gala is a very organized Virgo and she perfects the balance of fun, kitsch and organization to create a book that's ultra easy to read but also deeply engaging and inspiring.
The pages are splattered with personal examples that give life to actual radical self love (or not).
But really it's all about YOU. Again, Gala finds the balance between sharing personal stories making the reader feel like she/he is not alone but also providing plenty of non-inclusive examples!
So, you never feel like you HAVE to do something a certain way. And that's true fucking empowerment and Radical Self Love if you ask me.
One of my fav. quotes from the book says it all:
"That's the thing about inspiration: it should be a homage rather than a straight up impersonation."
And truly, Gala borrows from all plenty of popular self help techniques BUT she also encourages individuality.Take one look at her and you know she walks her talk in that way.
What I love about her style of writing is that it's very very straightforward without making you feel like some schlumpy asshole that's lazy and lacking what she needs. You've got it all. Right now. Well, maybe just a few tweaks and you've GOT THIS.
She inspires and motivates you with love, not fear or shame. And puts a millennial twist on it so you're not bored to death with humdrum.
Possibly one of my fav. sections from the book however comes from Chapter 4 "Love, Sex, the Galaxy and Everything."
It was all about relationships and how lack of honesty and vulnerability is like giving it the kiss of death. She really urges you, more or less, to get the fuck over it and have the damn conversation and say the damn thing (with love and equal listening).
It was quite the reflection and message I needed about my own lack of vulnerability and intimacy and how it likely caused the issues within my romantic relationships AND my close friendships.
When you love yourself deeply, you will recover from any set back.
It also made me realize that damn yes I want a "supernova" relationship when I decide to get into one next.
She says, "A relationship should be like an explosion of awesomeness. You should both be contributing your own unique brand of marvelousness and when your powers are combined you should both increase in brightness and radiance like a goddamn supernova."
BOOM. Mic drop.
But wait actually...here's another quoteable on Radical Self Love, "If you don't think you're a badass babe, you'll always be looking for someone to complete you or fill an emotional hole."
You are a badass babe, embrace it.
Gala's book feels like this: A RELEASE.
Of anything holding you down and weighing on you, this book is like full permission to fucking let it go and be lighter.
When you release, you actually gain.
This book feels like the best energy drink you could possibly swallow. It feels like a really good orgasm with a hot dude/chick or yourself that makes your day brighter.
It feels like the perfect ray of sunshine on your little goth heart.
If you aren't convinced yet, then..you're silly and I'll leave this link to purchase here for when you Radical Self Love your brain and want your copy:
